The Tale of the Cursed Gypsy

Duke Conn's entourage traveled through the rapier field, and ended up in a grand marketplace, where they saw a colorful gypsy man who bore a long and sad face. When asked by the kind natured Knight, the gypsy told a sad story of how he traveled about with an ingenious puzzle that he had devised. He had used this device to fool Princes and paupers alike, and by trickery had made his way and his living across the Knowne World. That is, until he foolishly tried to deceive a wizard. In his wrath the wizard cursed him to always carry the puzzle with him until it was solved. However, the wizard also sealed the puzzle in a magic box. No-one has been able to solve the puzzle, and the curse remains in effect to this day. What the Gypsy doesn't know is that the reason the puzzle can't be solved is that the wizard kept a piece of the puzzle. The puzzle cannot be removed from the box unless it is solved or the Gypsy will die.

His Grace Conn attempted to solve the puzzle, and was the first Knight there. The Knight manipulated the pieces while his squire viewed the puzzle, then they switched places. It was here that I had the pleasure to discovere that Conn is also mathematician - he knew the value of Pi! They soon realized that a piece of the hidden puzzle was missing, and they promised the Gypsy that they would search for it, returning when the piece was discovered.

And the Quest continued…
