Upon a wooden bridge stood the Red Knight. He was as tall as an oak tree, with arms of steel and legs as solid as an anvil. He surveyed his domain, challenging all who would dare to pass him.
Duke Sir Conn dared.
Sir Conn decided to allow his squire, Aubery, the honor of the first combat, as a chance to prove his mettle and show his bravery. A clash of blows occurred. The bridge shook and their swords sang, but with a mighty blow the Red Knight defeated gentle Aubery. However, the Red Knight was impressed with the skill displayed by the good squire, and was eager to test his mettle against the squire's master, and so challenged the Duke himself.
And this battle was mighty indeed. The ground itself shook, and swords crossed in a flurry of attacks, shields straining against the blow. The fight seemed to last for hours, but at the end, Sir Conn was victorious! Defeated, the Red Knight commended Sir Conn, and allowed his household to pass.
