UMTV Project

I assisted in the development of an interactive asymmetric hybrid communications environment (known as UMTV). Through the use of small and inexpensive stations, this system provides two-way video, phone, and computer links all across the University of Michigan, for use in presenting media from a variety of sources for use in presentations.

The below figure shows one of the innovations developed for use specifically with video. Through the use of a two way video environment, objects in remote locations can be pointed to using video icons, as demonstrated in the figure above. Teleconferencing and both local and remote presentations can be greatly enhanced due to the additional media which can be displayed simply and at low cost.
